I chose to genre-jump. I love reading romance, and loved writing my young adult paranormal romance BLUE LOTUS (that is currently being queried to agents as we speak). I decided that I wanted to take the jump and write adult romance. I think BLUE LOTUS probably reads upper-ya anyway (there is a graphic sex scene that will probably hit the editing room floor before it hits the store shelves).
I know a lot of writers that have issues with writing love scenes. I'm definitely not one of them. I love the thrill of writing a love scene. The tingle of that first touch. The stomach flip-flopping when he first kisses her. All of it.
So, without further ado - I'd like to introduce you to my NaNoWriMo novel, an adult contemporary romance titled BURN ME.
I don't want to give too much away (well that and I am only 11k words into the novel - so I don't quite know where my characters are going to take me).
But here's my 'back cover copy' for right now...
Katrina Hale's goal in life is to prove herself in the man's world of firefighting. She soon discovers that the heat of fighting fires is nothing compared to the scorching heat she encounters in fellow firefighter Greyson Neal's arms. The heat is turned up when her secret affair is found out and she has to decide if she is willing to jeopardize her career for her steamy romance with Greyson. And if things weren't hot enough, an arsonist setting fires all over their jurisdiction and it's up to her to piece together the clues that will lead to the capture of the perp. As Kat closes in on the suspect, she discovers that the people she trusts the most are hiding secrets of their own.
I'm super excited This book has been 'cooking' in my head for a while, and I almost didn't wait until NaNoWriMo started. Honestly, I don't care if I finish it for Nano or not. My goal in this endeavor is to come out with another completed novel - that is incredible. You can't rush perfection. And considering the average romance novel is in the 90-100k range, I know that even if I complete Nano (50k) that I'm only about halfway done. And then there's the rewriting, and revisions, and editing, and editing, and editing. Then there's the critique partners and the beta readers. Ahhhh I'm getting overwhelmed.
And honestly - who can look at this picture and NOT get inspired?
