Sick of both the police on her tail and her spaceship's paranoid computer, fifteen year old space pirate Dance West seeks a lost ship rumored to contain a treasure that will win her amnesty.
In retrospect, taking the fire escape wasn’t the smartest decision. Then again, Dance West wasn’t exactly known for making good choices. She’d seen an exit and bolted, just as two blaster shots drove into her arm, and now she was here, dangling by her fingertips and praying to every deity worshipped in the Gyget Arm that the thirty foot drop would leave her able to run. It would have been so much easier if Nigel had just flown the Pandora out to fetch her, but the ship’s computer had turned tail the instant he heard gunfire echoing over the Ikar skyline.
Tonight, she’d just have to get out of this mess herself.
Up above, some of the Police were already thundering after her. Dance gritted her teeth and glanced down again, trying to spot an open dumpster, a passerby - anything soft that could break her fall. They’re shooting to disable, not kill, she told herself over and over, but that did little to combat the sweat building up on her palms.
